Funky Fresh new content, hmmmmmm

Hey everyone!
Hope you're all doing real swell. Just dropping by with some projects I've recently dropped since I last did a blog post! I still have several bits and pieces I still can't reveal to the public until they get green-lit by my clients, but Once I do they'll be starring in my next post with all the saucy details! Speaking of sauce, lets dive into the latest illustrations why don't we?

Album Art Projects

Cover art for A-Dub da prodigy's new song 'I got sauce' ft. Jxmmy Watts. Fun, quick project to work on focusing on some character design work inspired by the 'Homies' Figures.

PHOENIX: Rising From the Ashes Vol. 1 ~ Album artwork created for DJ-Lexx Smith & DJ Milk As with each project I always find an area of the artwork i need to do, where i can really push a skill the furthest. With this one I focused on hand painting the flames to bring a more realistic feel to my usually line-heavy artwork. Also using white line-work on the phoenix itself was an experiment to add to its 'glowing' look, and worked out even better than i expected.

YouTube Content

For the 20th anniversary of the legendary classic JRPG Chrono Trigger, I decided to undertake a challenge: to create a tribute illustration that basically summarized the entire game in one giant poster.
A sit down retrospective review done by myself and partner in crime, Andy, this is the fourth in our in-depth look at the Final Fantasy series with FINAL FANTASY IV... .pretty much look at every incarnation of that classic, yes all 998 of them.

In this weeks 20th special VIDEO episode, me and Andy return after yet another long hiatus to bring a conclusion to our buildup of long awaited games POKEMON SUN AND MOON, FINAL FANTASY XV and KINGDOM HEARTS 2.8 and our experiences playing them.
We also talk about a few other games, including horizon dawn!
We also set a precedent in the series, replacing our usual features for a visual commentary over that delicate little flower THE TOWN WITH NO NAME... a game so classic, we didn't play it but watched it instead. So you get to see our ill-contained reactions to such a gem in the second half.

In this weeks 21st episode, me and Andy launch into our E3 Predictions with games we're both expecting and would love to see debut at the show... even the ones that are a bit of a stretch.
Talking about the recent Dynasty Warriors 9 reveal, possible Dragon Quest 11 news on international release, Final Fantasy 16? and a whole host of other wild guesses.
We wrap things up with a mighty return of ANDY'S 60 SECOND SCRAMBLE, where Andy summarises/reviews a 'classic' game in 60 seconds; this weeks being that cold hearted gem, PRIMAL RAGE.

As usual I'm really in the middle of my usual plate-spinning that is running Danji's Designs; Book Writing, Funding for that and new art equipment, Selling art at conventions and stocking up on new art for that (probably next year ), my YouTube Channel and the Network of Awesome Showcases and expansion. As you can expect I'm rather exhausted x_x but it will all be worth it in the end, as I set the bar the highest in bringing my art and creative endeavours to you, you beautiful people.

Watch this space!

Projects and plans for 2017

Hi everyone! How's everyone been doing?
I know I start off most of my posts with an apology for my absence but since that's an unavoidable thing at this point i'm not going to bore you, and instead I'm going to dive straight in with art I've been working on!

ALBUM ART

Political satire based cover art for upcoming album by AZ Hip Hop artist Juan $choville. First time doing a satirical piece, so faced some interesting challenges with this project.

As well as my constant work, I caught up with my good musical buddies MEGA RAN, K MURDOCK and RICHIE BRANSON on their UK Tour! My Chrono Trigger posters are now being sold on tour at the merch table, and there's projects in the works with these guys so keep an aye out for fun times ahead!

I'm really excited to get that finalised so I can show everyone what has taken so long to come to fruition, my very first book!!!!

I'll see you guys very soon!

Wrapping up 2016

So.... as 2016 comes to a close, I thought it would be a great opportunity to look back on some of my most recent projects to finish the year with both and and update and retrospective by myself on the work i've done in this year... man it's certainly flown.

So with that being said let's dive straight in shall we?

Tekforce Server Crash pt 1. ~ Continuing on from the last album, the art took the same approach as the music itself; More open and raw addressing more real life, destructive elements leading into the world of TRON

Nerdcore & Beyond, By Bitforce. This was an epic project that not only saw me work with my first non-hip hop music clients, but also tackled lots of new work that included a huge pixel art piece and even an animated display of the album art.

HERO MUZIK Vol. 2 by K-Murdock was probably THE most ambitious album art i created this year. Tying in a year after the Chrono Trigger 20th anniversary, this tribute allowed me to characterize all the artists involved to create this epic showdown of talent.

In terms of professional projects, my Epic Chrono Trigger Tribute illustration comes to the forefront as one of my longest running and most ambitious feats. The aim was to summarize in its entirety, the game which has influenced me and so many others in one huge poster.... and i did it. It just took me way longer than i could have ever anticipated, but after over a year of on and off progress i finished it this year. And not only that, I got posters created for purchase! I have under 20 copies left of my limited first run, so email me directly at: daniel89hill@hotmail.co.uk if you are interested in owning your very own.
I chronicled my entire progress working on this, videos of which can be found over on my YouTube channel (more of which are still on their way)

Overall, 2016 was a crazy hectic year for me with so many commissioned projects and big things, which has been incredible. The one thing i regret is that personal projects have had to take second place, which i guess comes with the territory and highlights that time management is something that always needs improving. My main traditional art vent was when Inktober came back around, which i'm proud that i stuck to completely, finishing all 31 days and experimenting in colored inks this time, which i think have helped my colour theory improve... But watercolors will be something i focus on in 2017, maybe i'll even use them with commissioned pieces, as i have a lot more traditional ideas in mind.

There's already lots planned on its way to kick off 2017, so here's to lots more fun in the New Year!

Much love to everyone who has supported me through another year of crazy art shenanigans <3

The Bumper Batch of Project Reveals!

Hey guys, sorry I know I said I'd be more frequent with updates but I've got so many projects ongoing as well as older projects finally getting dropped to the public, well.... this is going to be another big old blog entry, but I figured hey, it's better to hear big ol' updates like this than not at all right?! right, let's do this then!

So with my commissions, I can't actually show off as much as I've been working on since my last update, but I have a couple as well as a few old ones that can now be officially revealed! Finally got the go ahead to drop the Digital Champion series 2 trading card images, the follow up to my last big pixel art project, displayed from which are all 32 characters appearing in the upcoming concept album by Alpha Riff, Mors Aeterna, COMING SOON. The release for the Poster art i did for the Hooligoons album, 'Wavepool' finally came out too which is available here. Newer things i've worked on that I CAN show you, are the latest MR. MIRANDA Monopoly style artwork that's going to be available on vests and tee's towards the summer over on his Merch page and as well as that, I also completed a personal traditional Ink piece for someone's birthday gift which made a really nice change from my usual music/digital style work : )

All 32 of these characters, both new and returning, will be making their physical appearance in trading card form in the near future!

Called by some as one of the most polished pieces of design I've ever done, you will be able to rock this completely original piece on vests just in time for summer.

As well as in between commissions I've been working on some more traditional original pieces, and also trying to get some of the prints from my new online store out there into the scary world: You can find three of my prints in a small tea shop in Macclesfield, UK 'DD's on The Corner', so pop in for some tea n snacks and support your local artists while you're there (Prints are £12 each). The painting I revealed last time 'The Interwoven Path' is now all framed and ready for anyone who wants to own it! and not only that it's joined by a collaboration piece: 'Eve' is a concept by my good friend and fellow artist Angela Fullard that she let me pain in exchange for her painting one of mine: Like my previous one it is Watercolour on Birch Plywood, and now sits framed on my wall. For those interested in purchasing either originals contact me via the website.

'Mow Cop Castle', 'loughborough Train Station' and 'Bradgate Park' prints can now be found at DD's on The Corner in Macclesfield ~£12 each

Some more recent originals I've worked on, I went back to my comfort topic of robots..... but not only that decided it was a good opportunity to revisit inks, as its a medium I hold dearly and yet don't often have time for. Got my classic Rotring pens all top shape again, and made good use of them my FW acrylic inks and my Indian ink to create these two pieces: both of the originals I'm going to make available for sale, as well as some prints very soon!

'Lots o' Bots' ~ .25 and .50 Strength fineline pens for linework and filling and FW daler rowney acrylis ink

So what else have I been up to? Well I mentioned awhile back of my collective the Network of Awesome? well it's been a long time coming, but VERY VERY SOON I will have the very first ARTIST SHOWCASE video ready online, and spreading across all of your social media. It is the first in many, that will highlight the incredible work that our members do: each video will contain 10 artists from various specialties, and seeing as the group is slowly;y growing by the day it is the first of many showcases brought to you by the group. I'm really excited for everyone to see the results of over a years preparation and work... it's a big deal to me!

Lots of EXCITING new content from the Network of Awesome, coming very soon!

I hope everyone else who follows my progress is well, and if you want to chat or have any questions... just drop me a message! I like talking to y'all and seeing what you've all been up to

Take care!

This project was a design brief to adapt the UK based Producers Cigadeemus' logo into a character. quite happy with the end result!

There has been a looooooot of commission projects I've been working on since my last so I though i'd just show you guys a selection of a few of the things I created as opposed to all of em... or this update would take you about ten years to work your way through muahaha! Most of these have been made public but the art for the Digital Champions Pixel art Trading cards is EXCLUSIVE to show to you guys before the official release..... you lucky buggers.

Sneak glimpse at my massive Chrono Trigger tribute illustration for the 20th anniversary of this legendary SNES game... even though i didn't get to play this game until the re-release in the UK, it has influenced me greatly.

Watercolour commission that kicked off my foray back into painting again. Created for an old friend of the old castle ruin in our home village (prints available in my new store!)

'The Interwoven Path' the very first watercolour painting on wooden panel; not without it's challenges, but definitely the start of a new series on this exciting media.

Though I've had my plate full with commission work, I've had lots of other personal projects planned in between; I finally started doing waterolour painting again after many years both on commission and personal pieces.... it's something that's a real passion of mine so it was only a matter of time before i returned to it. And i'm glad i did.
I've also started experimenting painting on wooden panels after having enough of none-solid surfaces like paper/card; its a steep learning curve but definitely worth persevering with. I'm also carrying on my epic Chrono Trigger tribute poster which has been on hold for awhile now, that I really want to have completed this year.
It's all go!

Another of my personal projects, I finally reached the conclusion of all of the colored illustrations for my upcoming Robot Alphabet book! I just now have the task ahead of writing it all, so until i'm done with that have a couple of page extracts of a few of the bots that you'll see in Alphabetronics!

Finally, over on my YouTube channel my content slowly but surely gets getting ever increased by various installments of my various videos... we've covered several games in our game review series so far, looking heavily on the retro games me and my mate andy grew up playing. And our Shodcast is hanging in there for all your rambling needs, if that's the sort of thing you like listening too :')
(feel free to check them out and other videos on my channel on the links above)

In closing, I'm going to try my best to keep this blog updated as much as i can going forward (to avoid big old entries like this for starters haha) so for those that aren't on any of my social media can see all of my projects as I release them to you all.

Stay in contact! I always love to hear from people that follow my work (contact through the site or drop me a line over at my FB: https://www.facebook.com/danjisdesigns/ )

Much love,

Dan

Danji's Designs ~ RNDM Album Review

So..... while those that know me know that I am a visual artist and designer more than i am a reviewer in any way, it makes sense to me that when something truly special comes along that influences your own career, that you should look at it in detail .... which is what I've decided to do here, with my own review of Mega Ran's latest album, RNDM.

I first heard of Mega Ran's music several years back, not long after he released his Final Fantasy VII Tribute album, Black Materia (like a lot of other people), and found his style of merging solid Hip Hop with games that had influenced me, both exciting and a refreshing change of pace. Fast forward a bit further to roughly just over a year ago, and I find myself faced with an opportunity to create tour posters for this guy who was fast becoming one of the most exciting names in hip hop to me..... which i jumped at, obviously. Several awesome projects later, I was informed that he wanted me to work on the artwork for his next big album concept.... at this time titled 'Wouldn't Miss It For The World'. This, is the album which I shall be looking at today..... RNDM.

For those that aren't aware, Mega Ran is a Hip Hop artist who went by the name Random during his early days. After the release of his debut album 'The Call' around 8 years ago wasn't as well received (as it deserved in my opinion), it took Ran to return to his childhood and nerdier roots in video games to reignite the passion and take his music in another direction, which would lead to his 'Mega Ran' persona that would become the focus of his career going forward.

With RNDM, you really get the sense that this has been a long time coming. Songs such as 'Infinite Lives' and 'Losses' were revealed well over a year prior to the album release now, giving you an insight into the polarised theme of the upcoming record. And that's one of the first things I noticed; this album really does capture both sides of Mega Ran's style, and its apparent that this album is a deliberate turning point in bringing together both his chip-tune and nerd-core focused music with his socially conscious hip hop together in an album that essentially defines him and his journey through music so far into one incredible piece of work.

If this is your first time listening to a Mega Ran album then you're in for a master class in taking every type of song possible, and making it into one big epic audible soup; Everything from the upbeat and inspirational (Infinite Lives and Believe!), the heavy tracks like OP and Mackerel Sky,  tongue-in-cheek tracks like 'Your Favourite Song' that mock current music trends, Nerdy tributes like 'Space Defence Team' and serious retrospectives that take a heartfelt look back at some of the more difficult parts of his life (A Poet, Revisions), it really does cover a hell of a lot of ground.  It's the latter of these tracks that, personally, as someone who has listened to pretty much the full back catalog of Mega Ran's, REALLY stand out to me. This has got to be the most raw and honest album to date, with subjects being tackled that you can tell were difficult to confront and revisit.

The first song that really resonated with me off RNDM, was 'The Meeting', a song where Mega Ran literally is confronted by his past self. The two perspectives clash in a way that hits you hard, when you suddenly find the idea of being faced by a younger version of yourself who had different aspirations, all too familiar. Who doesn't often wonder and ponder on the decisions they made to lead them to where they are today? Each verse tackles both sides to his personality brilliantly, and both voices the doubts he has as well as ultimately, and resolutely silencing them at the same time.

I was lucky enough to get an early preview copy of this album, and it has honestly remained a daily listen since then; The quality of not just the lyrical skill and content, but also production and sound is so finely polished, you can tell that this is going to stand the test of time as a classic. Regardless of the long build up to this album being finished, the resulting pay off doesn't feel like an ending at all, more like the start of a whole new exciting chapter in Mega Ran's career.

Regardless of whether you've never listened to his music before, or you're a long time fan, this album is a solid and I think, a pivotal point in his music. If you have the option to only get one more album this year..... invest in independent music, and treat yourself to RNDM.

And to Mega Ran..... Thank you! Ultimate Respect Due =)

Big Project Reveals & Funky Updates

Hi all! been busier than usual recently due to some big deadlines for some epic projects, some of which I can finally reveal today, huzzah!

The Collective known as my 'Network Of Awesome' is going from strength to strength, and it now has its very own video intro! Made this as a trademark intro/outro that any member can use in their own videos, as a signature to show their membership in the network, and I created it depicting everyone's logo/symbol all connecting to one another in a big ol' panoramic view. Sniff, it's beautiful (though i'm biased cos I made it) Check it out below!

After months of working on it, I can finally reveal the album artwork for Mega Ran's upcoming album, RNDM! Depicting a portrait of the man himself, it is split into both sides of the pioneering musician, realistic and old school 8-bit graphics, which represents the duality of his music, both as a nerdy rapper and a solid Hip Hop artist. This project is a commission that I'm most proud of to date, and it's been an honor to create such artwork for such an amazing album. Go pre-order that here! :  http://megaranmusic.com/album/rndm

Album cover for RNDM, The version Kickstarter backers will get who pledged enough to get their exclusive copy.

I seem to be on a roll with album art reveals recently, so here's another! Today marks the 20th anniversary of the classic JRPG Chrono Trigger's release in the west! To celebrate this, epic producer K Murdock is going to be working on an epic sequel to his last HERO MUZIK album (the original was a homage to Final Fantasy 6), focusing on re-imagining the amazing score from the original game in his trademark style. I'm honoured to reveal that it is my good self who was asked to do the cover art for this project, and although the final artwork and album itself won't be out until near the end of the year, here's the official teaser art to announce the project! :D

The album art for this exciting project is just one of a few tributes that I will be doing over the coming few weeks, so keep an eye out on all my social media for more exciting announcements!

It's been such a hectic past few weeks for me recently, but the things revealed in this news update are just the tip of the iceberg, with a couple of ongoing logo design projects, illustration and poster stuff, not to mention finally starting the Network of Awesome Showcase videos which I'm really excited to get out there. I'll be sure to keep you all posted with my newest projects as they get revealed, so thank you for following me and supporting me on this crazy ol' journey of mine.

Til next time, have a gander at my latest YouTube Channel Trailer, which explains all the cool stuff I do in general, as well as the exclusive stuff I do just on YouTube.

Catch ya later! ~Dan

The Network Of Awesome & Other Big Projects

Hi everybody! Couple of big tit-bits of news today, some stuff I've been steadily leaking through other sites and social media as well as some new stuff.

To start with, I've been talking about for awhile, how I'm in the process of creating Artist Showcase videos as well interviews with the artists themselves which I have been sharing on my YouTube channel. This whole endeavor is a group I have founded title the 'NETWORK OF AWESOME'  and is my aim to gather artists from all sorts of creative backgrounds together and help promote all their awesome work through various methods. At the moment we are all working behind the scenes, interacting, helping and sharing our work with each other while I work away on creating the Showcase videos themselves.... though I can reveal that their will be an official site with which you will find all the artists involved, as well as a link to the videos once they're up. As well as all that, numerous other projects alongside my interview series, which are still currently top secret! ...But making you all aware that the video's are just the start of some major plans as we take this much further, so stick around ;)

In terms of personal projects, I've been working on several big commissions that due to their release date not being anytime soon I've had to keep news on these under wraps. One however is nearing completion, the much anticipated album release of RNDM By good friend and super talented guy Mega Ran! I've been contributing visuals for this project of his for a long time now, and I can't wait for it to drop so I can show you all my hard work. Until then click on the teaser image, to go visit Mega Ran's brand new Label website where you're able to pre-order the album itself and preview a snippet of one of his songs.... the one that will be featured in the end credits of the upcoming Mighty Number 9 Game no less!

On top of this, got some exciting album artwork commissions coming up, multiple logo Work, trading cards, and the potential to work on more game-related stuff! So busy, but very exciting times ahead :D

And apart from that, feel free to check out a couple of recent videos posted up on my YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/danielhilldanjisdesigns ), and I'll catch you next time!

New Interview Series', and Shodcast Launch.... oh my!

Hey guys and gals! Been awhile since I last updated through here and a lot has happened since my last post! My content on my YouTube channel has expanded... First off, with my interview series that has kicked off spectacularly with a total of 4 full interviews now online on my channel (see videos below for full playlist). I've interviewed lots of awesome people, from Nerd Core musicians, game designers, 3D artists and programmers, with many more upcoming! A lot of the people featured are a part of my upcoming Network of Awesome Artist Showcase.... but more of that later!

Next up, is another new endeavor focused on exclusive YouTube content..... a podcast! These are done by me and my good friend Andy Cheetham, in which we focus on less work related things, such as games, media news, discussions on various subjects... and well, all presented in our unique bullshit laden way, as the title would suggest.
You can watch the first three episodes now! Just click on the playlist below, and their all there waiting for ya.... all patient like = )
Also you can contact us to suggest future topics we could talk about, or any interesting stories you think we should cover!

New Upcoming YouTube Series Debut's!

As I try to make my YouTube Channel home to more and more exclusive content away from my other social media channels, I have started a few videos that will (hopefully) lead onto their own individual series focusing on various things. The first one of note is when me and my Partner in crime, Andy Cheetham of ChillCre8tive, sat down to do our first informal sit-down game review of Final Fantasy Type-0, which is going to be the first in our collaborative game review series in which we review a host of games, from past to present day... Our own unique brand of mumbling biased bullshit comes free of charge.

Another series I'm looking to starting, is recordings of me while i complete various drawings, sketches and artwork (AKA Speed Sketches), time-lapsed so you get a unique insight into the creation process of various projects by yours truly! The first of which you can view below.

Apart from these first videos that are now out there on my YouTube channel herrrrrrre:  https://www.youtube.com/user/Danjimantiss24 , other new video's that are coming up are the start of my new Artist Interview series, four of which have already been filmed and are currently in edit, in which i talk to various people about the awesome work they do. There there is the Artist showcase videos, focusing on various types of independent artists from far-ranging medias as acting, pixel art, musicians, game designers and multiple visual arts. Then on top of that, I'm looking into creating a weekly podcast, of rambling and mind-riffery with some mates, so aside from all the creative things you will see me covering, you can also hear me talking whatever crap comes into my mind as we look at each weeks events.... if that tickles your fancy.
So stick around! So much video and audio content coming up that i literally cannot contain mahself
*Phew*

Client Showcase!

As my freelance career has taken me to work for more and more interesting and awesome people, my aim has altered to not only work for these individuals... but to also promote them and spread the word of the incredible work that THEY do.

This video is a showcase of all these independent musicians, business owners and entrepreneurs that i have had the pleasure to work with.

My next few upcoming videos will be focusing on interviews, actually talking to some of these awesome peeps about the work that they do. As well as a showcase video highlighting individual artists like myself, as i continue to build a network of awesome people... so stick around!

Work Featured and Interview! Oh my

Hello! Had a much needed small holiday away at a friends for a few days... well i say holiday, i still had to work on some deadlines, and actually got several interviews for the website done.... but I'll update on that later. But yes, I did an interview for Opinionated Panda several weeks ago and it's gone live! so you can read all about me, the work i do and my influences if you like :)

BUT WAIT... THERE'S MORE!

As well as that tasty little morsel of me, I was pleasantly surprised to see a note in my DeviantArt inbox telling me that one of my old Star Wars fan arts had been featured on a site with so many incredible artists! Some of which have actually done work for official Star Wars projects, so needless to say the fact that an old sketch of mine was shown alongside such masterpieces made my day :)

If your wondering which one is mine, its the pencil one of Durge by DangoMango ;)

Handychaps - The Game I Made

A collaboration between myself and Andy Cheetham, for the Handyman service's website, Handychaps. I created all in game artwork and Icons, and was the first game project I created that would be live and be played by others... it was also the first time I created artwork solely in Illustrator which was challenging, but gives the final look of the game a smooth, simple and distinct style.
Though there was numerous bumps in the road to finishing this project (as is always the case when working as part of a team), it's been great learning experience and I'm proud to have my very first game completed!

Try out the game yourself! http://www.handychapsgame.co.uk/

Expect more game art and interactive goodies in the near future :)

Myself, and Andrew Cheetham sit down to look back and talk about the game me and him worked on, discussing our favourite moments from the project and what we're going to do going forward from this experience.

Welcome to Danji's Designs.com!

Hello everyone! And welcome one and all to what critics are calling, 'the best thing since the invention of the Lightsaber'* the launch of my brand spanking new website!

Here will be the base of all my operations and where I will now work from with all my future updates, which will then no doubt trickle down onto my other social media sites like some form of illustration based primordial soup.... speaking of which, head over to my contact page to find all my other online abodes and follow me on such sites as Facebook and Tumblr if you haven’t already... don't worry I don't bite! (unless you're a sandwich in which case you've been warned).

I've split my main body of work into sections based on the projects or genre they're part of to make things easier to find for you... if your finding the zoomed in high-def pics too slow to find what you want however, feel free to click the top-right grid icon to see all the works in smaller format.

On top of that, I've also got a whole other gallery alongside that just for my sketchbook work, where you can find all my rougher, traditional and downright silly doodles in various media...... OOH yes, while I'm on the subject, most Friday's over on my Facebook page I hold a errr 'Dan Art Fridays' (definitely a very imaginative way to re-brand the commonly used Fan-Art Fridays.... yes) thingy, where essentially I make myself open to suggestions from all my followers, those of which I will then draw in my current sketchbook! So come on over and get involved.... It's been on hiatus for awhile but I'll be starting it up again very soon :)

And I thiiink... that's pretty much it for this introduction! Everything else is pretty much covered on the site already, though if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me directly through the site (or my social media sites* OK I'll stop shamelessly self promoting now), and I would love to hear back off you of your thoughts on the site! Any feedback at all is welcome!

Much love to you all who have supported me thus far, and who’s support I dedicate the launch of my first official website to..... if it wasn't for you guys this wouldn't be possible.

See you very soon!

Dan,

Danji's Designs
